Aims and Objectives | The Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Building Engineering and Management aims to produce graduates who can be developed as highly competent and professional building engineers for Hong Kong, China and the international market. It aims to equip students with the knowledge and ability to contribute effectively to project and facilities management teams which are engaged in complex building projects. |

Professional Recognition | This programme is transferred from the Department of Building and Real Estate (BRE) of PolyU with the core elements of the BRE programme remaining unchanged. PolyU SPEED, with the support from BRE, is seeking the continuation of the recognition from the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE) and the Hong Kong Institute of Construction Managers (HKICM)* after the programme transfer. Full accreditation has already been granted by the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB), the UK for this programme hosted by PolyU SPEED.
* The existing part-time Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Building Engineering and Management hosted by BRE has been granted provisional accreditation by HKIE. It also meets the academic requirements for Corporate Membership of HKICM. |

Study schedule | Classes will normally be held on weekday evenings and/or Saturday afternoon. |
Teaching and Assessment Methods | Teaching is usually conducted through lectures, tutorials and seminars. Depending on the contents and requirements of individual subject, classes may also be supplemented by laboratory and practical sessions. Online learning platform is also available through which students and teachers are encouraged to interact outside classrooms.
To enable students to demonstrate that they have met the intended learning outcomes of the academic programmes and fulfilled the requirements of each subject, appropriate methods of assessment will be employed. These methods usually include assignment, projects, tests and examinations. |
Entry Requirements |
A recognized Associate Degree or a Higher Diploma or equivalent qualification.*
Those who do not possess the above-mentioned qualifications but have reached the age of 25 before 1 September, in the year in which they seek admission, may apply as mature applicants. Mature applicants should possess relevant work experience in senior positions and have completed post-secondary studies in related fields. They will also be required to pass an admission test and demonstrate to the Admission Interview Panel their ability to complete the programme.
* The main medium of instruction of the study programmes concerned should be English. Applicants who have completed programmes with other languages as the main medium of instruction are required to attain the following English Language requirement: IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL 550 (paper based); 80 (Internet based) |

HK$2,775 per credit for Discipline Specific Requirements subjects; HK$2,475 per credit for General University Requirements subjects in 2019/20 academic year
The tuition fee is charged on a semester basis.
Successful applicants will be required to pay a registration fee of HK$5,000 (being part of the tuition fee for the first semester of study) by the date as specified on the notice of offer/ conditional offer (normally within 10 days from the issue date of the notice of offer/ conditional offer).
Balance of tuition fee for the first semester of study will be due for payment in mid-July 2019.
Tuition fees paid are normally neither refundable nor transferable.

Supporting Facilities | Most of the classes will be held on PolyU Hung Hom Bay (HHB) Campus and PolyU West Kowloon (WK) Campus. Both PolyU Hung Hom Bay Campus and PolyU West Kowloon Campus are equipped with state-of-the-art teaching and learning facilities. All students are entitled to access the library, computing and sports facilities at both campuses.
On top of the facilities at HHB and WK campuses, all students can also access the library and sports facilities at PolyU main campus. |
