Aims and ObjectivesThe Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Mechanical Engineering aims to provide up-to-date and top quality education in various areas of mechanical engineering, nurturing the next generation of professional engineers. The programme provides students solid fundamental knowledge and skills in mechanical engineering including thermofluids, mechanics and materials engineering, dynamics and control, design and manufacturing technology. In addition, students can choose to develop their expertise in the following specialised mechanical engineering technical streams:
1. Aerospace engineering;
2. Design and automation; and
3. Mechanical services and environmental engineering.

On completion of the programme, graduates should acquire the:
1. Technical know-how in handling multi-disciplinary engineering projects with mechanical engineering activities being the major contents;
2. Readiness to serve as assistant mechanical engineer or engineering trainee;
3. Awareness of evolving technology; and
4. Ability to adapt to change.

Professional RecognitionThis programme has been transferred from the Department of Mechanical Engineering of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University since September 2018 with the curriculum remaining essentially unchanged. PolyU SPEED is seeking professional accreditation from The Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE) in several disciplines, including the mechanical engineering, aircraft engineering, building services engineering, environmental engineering, gas engineering and manufacturing & industrial engineering.
