Teaching and Scholarly Interests
Dr Liu holds B.A. in Economics (University Highest Honor, Special Honors in Economics), University of Texas, Austin, Texas, and M.A. Economics, Ph.D. Economics and in University of California, Los Angeles.
Before joining PolyU SPEED, he was teaching assistant and head of teaching assistant for Principles of economics in UCLA. Dr Liu’s research interests are mainly in asset pricing and intra-day stock price volatility.
Dr Liu’s research interest in Application of Big Data Techniques dated back to his work on high frequency stock price data for his PhD thesis. He is well versed in the extensive use of Matlab and R in a large data set research setting.
Upon returning to Hong Kong, Dr Liu has worked as marketing consultant in food and beverage industry and as project manager in the property industry before joining the academia. Dr Liu has the capacity of bringing in practical experience to teaching higher education in the area of management, business and economics. He also contributes articles on economics and higher education issues to local media, including Hong Kong Economic Journal, HKG Bao and Speakout Hong Kong Forum.
Dr Liu is active in community work and student exchanges organised by NGO. He is keen on organising valuable learning experience in serving the under-privileged community for students.
Dr Liu always welcomes students to approach him for help or advice. He wants his students to succeed and is committed to helping them achieve their goals. Moreover, Dr Liu cares about his students’ happiness, well-being and life beyond the classroom.
