PolyU-affiliated HKCC and SPEED Celebrate the Graduation of
over 4,120 Students in their 15th Joint Graduation Ceremony

(28 October 2017, Hong Kong) School of Professional Education and Executive Development (SPEED) and Hong Kong Community College (HKCC), the educational units of the PolyU-affiliated College of Professional and Continuing Education (CPCE), held their 15th Joint Graduation Ceremony on 16 and 28 October 2017.  SPEED and HKCC respectively sent forth 1,300 bachelor’s degree graduates and 2,823 sub-degree graduates who earned their Associate Degree (AD) or Higher Diploma (HD).

HKCC Graduates’ Articulation Rate Reached 87.5%, with a Record High of 60.3% Admitted to Government-funded Programmes

Dr Simon Leung, CPCE Associate Dean (Development) and HKCC Director, said, “According to the HKCC Graduation Survey 2017 which had a response rate of 88.7%, a total of 2,191 graduates articulated to bachelor’s degree programmes, representing a high articulation rate of 87.5%.   It is gratifying to note the percentage of articulated graduates being admitted to government-funded bachelor’s degree programmes reached a record high of 60.3% (1,322); and not only that, those getting into UGC Senior Year Places also attained a historic high of 47.5% (1,041). These impressive articulation figures testify that HKCC provides the premier non-JUPAS pathway for youngsters to gain entry to government-funded undergraduate degree programmes.”

“From the first cohort of graduates in 2003 to those in 2017, over 22,900 HKCC graduates have articulated to bachelor’s degree studies.  This represents a 15-year average articulation rate of 80.9%, which speaks volumes about the abilities and achievements of HKCC students,” added Dr Leung. SPEED’s Diversified Top-up Honours Degree Programmes

To enhance the articulation prospects of HKCC graduates, CPCE has put in place a flexible “2+2” articulation pathway.  After completing their 2-year sub-degree study, HKCC graduates have the opportunity to articulate to SPEED’s 2-year top-up honours degree programmes. This year, 17.7% (387) of HKCC articulated graduates were admitted to the PolyU-SPEED award bachelor’s honours degree programmes.

Dr Jack Lo, Director of SPEED, said, “With a commitment to providing quality articulation opportunities for HKCC and other sub-degree graduates, SPEED has been actively expanding its programme portfolio in recent years. Within the spectrum of PolyU-SPEED award programmes, the BA (Hons) in Business (Health Services Management), the BSc (Hons) in Building Engineering and Management, and the BSc (Hons) in Surveying were launched in 2017/18.  Looking ahead, SPEED plans to extend its portfolio of PolyU-SPEED award top-up honours degree programmes to the disciplines of electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, and convention and event management as from 2018/19.”

HKCC and SPEED are two self-financed educational units operating under the auspices of CPCE, which was founded by PolyU in 2002. HKCC currently offers more than 30 sub-degree programmes spanning the domains of arts, science, social sciences, business and the specialised areas of health studies and design. As for SPEED, it provides more than 20 top-up honours degree programmes leading to PolyU-SPEED awards which match closely the articulation needs of HKCC graduates in related disciplines.
