Mr. Cheung obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in statistics and computing from the University of Hong Kong. He then completed a MSc degree in computer science and artificial intelligence at the University of Essex, under the staff development programme of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. A member of the Hong Kong Institute of Engineers and British Computer Society, he is accredited by the Engineering Council as a Chartered Information Systems Engineer and a Chartered IT Professional. As an active member of the fast-growing Hong Kong computing community, he was the chairman of the Association for Computing Machinery, HK Chapter during 2003-2007.
Before joining the current post, Mr. Cheung has already gained extensive experience in the higher education field. He started his academic career as a lecturer at the Hang Seng School of Commerce when the school was established in Hong Kong. He then joined the academic faculty of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. During that time, he gained experience in industrial secondment as a database administrator in Citibank in Tokyo. Starting from the year 2000, he was the founding programme leader for the MSc in e-commerce programme (CyberU version). As deputy scheme leader, he was responsible for the leadership of three MSc programmes in e-learning mode. Mr. Cheung was chairman of the resource committee supervising over ten technical staff in the computing section.
Mr. Cheung was the principal investigator for various funded research projects, including a research grant from UGC for a CERG funded project. He has published in a number of referee international journals, including: international journal of marketing intelligence and planning, IEEE internet computing, international journal of computer applications in engineering education, international journal of pervasive computing and communications, international journal of information and operations management education, international journal of digital information management, and international journal of advanced science and technology. He was the editor/contributor of ten edited books. He has published papers in the World Wide Web conference, a top conference in area, and he won the best paper award in the IFIP International Conference on Embedded and Ubiquitous Computing in Korea out of five hundred submissions. He also supervised MPhil students and his students graduated successfully. Currently he is the guest editor of the international journal of knowledge engineering and data mining ¡V knowledge engineering and management for the intelligent enterprise. |
