Aims and Objectives

The Diploma in Active Ageing programme aims to equip students with the required transferable skills and knowledge for enhancement of the daily living activities of active elderly people.

Programme Structure

The programme consists of 10 compulsory subjects of 3 credits each

Students who have completed 30 credits of study with satisfactory results will be awarded the Diploma in Active Ageing.

Students who have completed 9 credits of study with satisfactory results may apply to exit the programme of study with the exit award of Certificate in Active Ageing

Study schedule

Students’ normal study load is 6 credits in each semester, except that during the summer term the normal study load is 3 credits.

Under the normal study load, the number of class contact hours per week is 6.

Classes will normally be held on weekday evenings and/or Saturday daytime.

Entry Requirements

Applicants are expected to have the following qualification:

  • Secondary 6 or equivalent, OR
  • Secondary 5 or equivalent plus 3 years of full-time work experience, OR
  • QF Level 3 qualification.

 

Applicants who cannot provide proof of attainment of the requisite qualification but have accumulated at least 10 years of work experience in senior positions will also be considered on an individual basis.  They will be required to demonstrate to the Admission Interview Panel their ability to complete the programme.

Fees

Application:

Waived (No application fee is required for 2018/19)

Tuition:

HK$1,865 per credit for 2018/19 academic year.

The tuition fee is charged on a semester basis.

Successful applicants will be required to pay a registration fee of HK$5,000 (being part of the tuition fee for the first semester of study) by the date as specified on the notice of offer/ conditional offer (normally within 10 days from the issue date of the notice of offer/ conditional offer). 

Tuition fees paid are normally neither refundable nor transferable.

Caution Money:

HK$390 (A one-off caution money will be charged at student's first registration.)

 

Financial Assistance

Scholarship will be provided by Hang Oi Charitable Foundation and The TsimShaTsui District Kai Fong Welfare Association to the students of this programme.  Each student will be entitled to a scholarship worth of HK$2,500 per subject for the 2 subjects taken in the first semester of study (i.e. January – May 2019).

Part-time students are eligible to apply for Extended Non-means-tested Loan Scheme (ENLS) offered by the Government's Student Finance Office (SFO).  Please visit SFO website www.wfsfaa.gov.hk/sfo for details.

Supporting Facilities

Most of the classes will be held on PolyU Hung Hom Bay (HHB) Campus and PolyU West Kowloon (WK) Campus. Both PolyU Hung Hom Bay Campus and PolyU West Kowloon Campus are equipped with state-of-the-art teaching and learning facilities. All students are entitled to access the library, computing and sports facilities at both campuses. Full-time students are also entitled to the health and dental services offered by the School.

On top of the facilities at HHB and WK campuses, all students can also access the library and sports facilities at PolyU main campus.
