Prior to joining this institution in 2014, Dr Nancy Guo had been a Visiting Lecturer in the Department of English of PolyU for almost five years, where she had taught more than seven different subjects in relation to general English, semantics, discourse analysis, English language education, English for visual arts, and English for business communication. She also had solid experience of teaching Putonghua to Cantonese and non-local students.
Nancy obtained her Doctor of Philosophy in Linguistics from PolyU (2015), Master of Arts with Distinction in English Language Teaching from PolyU (2009), and Bachelor of Arts in English from Beihang University (2004).
Her research interests include language education, material design, literacy development, language and communication and multisemiotic studies. She has also participated in various local and international research projects on language education and multisemiotic studies. Her major publications include Infusing multiliteracies into English language curriculum: The visual construction of knowledge in English textbooks from an ontogenetic perspective, in Linguistics and Education, 31, 115–129; and Ontogenetic analysis of college English textbooks in China - a systemic-functional perspective, in David Qian & Li Lan (Eds), Teaching and Learning English in East Asian Universities: Global Visions and Local Practice (pp. 360-376).
