Speaker
Dr. Charles Cho is Professor of Accounting and Erivan K. Haub Chair in Business & Sustainability at the Schulich School of Business, York University, Canada. He has published papers in prestigious academic journals such as Accounting, Auditing and Accountability Journal, Accounting, Organizations and Society, Critical Perspectives on Accounting, the European Accounting Review, and the Journal of Business Ethics, and was an invited author of chapters in several books. His work has been presented at various national and international conferences such as the American Accounting Association (AAA) Annual Meeting, the Canadian Academic Accounting Association (CAAA), the European Accounting Association (EAA) Annual Congress and the International Congresses on Social and Environmental Accounting Research. He currently serves as an Editor of Accounting Forum, the Accounting and Business Ethics Section Co-Editor of the Journal of Business Ethics as well as an Associate Editor of Accounting and the Public Interest. In addition, he is an Editorial Board member of 14 other academic journals. He was previously full professor with ESSEC Business School in France and has been a visiting professor with tertiary institutions in South Korea, US and Poland. He is professionally qualified with CPA Canada.
Moderator
Dr. Artie Ng is Principal Lecturer and Deputy Director of PolyU SPEED. His research interest is pertinent to sustainability performance of knowledge-intensive organizations. He has published with refereed international journals, such as Journal of Intellectual Capital, Journal of Sustainable Finance and Investment, Renewable and Sustainable Energy Reviews, Thunderbird International Business Review as well as Venture Capital: An International Journal of Entrepreneurial Finance. He currently serves as Deputy Editor with International Journal of Climate Change Strategies and Management and as a board member of CPA Canada (Hong Kong Chapter).
Synopsis
In this seminar, Professor Cho will share his insights about how academic research on social, environmental and sustainability accounting has become increasingly relevant in the business environment. He will also touch upon some reflections about the development of this area in the professional body in Canada and articulate pertinent challenges and opportunities for contemporary professional accountants.
