Fifty-nine graduates are awarded the Advanced Certificate in Emergency and Disaster Management.

PolyU SPEED, an educational unit of the PolyU-affiliated College of Professional and Continuing Education (CPCE), and The Hong Kong Jockey Club Disaster Preparedness and Response Institute (HKJCDPRI) held their first joint graduation ceremony at the PolyU Hung Hom Bay campus on 8 October 2022. Fifty-nine graduates were awarded the “Advanced Certificate in Emergency and Disaster Management”.

The “Advanced Certificate in Emergency and Disaster Management”, recognised by the Hong Kong Qualifications Framework, is the first programme on emergency and disaster management offered by the Continuing Education Office (CEO) of PolyU SPEED. The HKJCDPRI, established under the leadership of the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine (HKAM) in 2014, is dedicated to promoting disaster preparedness.

Guests at the graduation ceremony included Mr Aaron Cheng, Chief Executive Officer of HKAM, Prof. Peter Yuen, Dean of CPCE, and Dr Simon Cheung, Head of CEO.

Graduates of this cross-organisational programme are from various government departments, public and private organisations, and voluntary organisations including the Fire Services Department, Marine Department, Immigration Department,  Department of Health, Hospital Authority, Civil Engineering and Development Department, Hong Kong Observatory, Civil Aid Service, The Hong Kong Jockey Club, MTR, Scout Association of Hong Kong, Auxiliary Medical Service, Hong Kong Red Cross, Hong Kong St. John Ambulance, West Kowloon Cultural District Authority, and The Mental Health Association of Hong Kong.

Apart from acquiring knowledge from experts in emergency and disaster management, students also visited the Government Flying Service, Fire Services Department, Hong Kong Observatory and Hong Kong Maritime Rescue Co-ordination Centre to get a taste of the challenges of preparedness and daily rescue work.
