Four Surveying Students Enter the Global Student Challenge 2020 Final
03 Dec 2020
A team of four year-two students of PolyU SPEED’s BSc (Hons) in Surveying, namely Chan Chun-on, Ma Sze-chai, Ng Shuk-ping, and Wong Tsz-man, was shortlisted as the only team from Hong Kong to compete with the other five finalists out of 52 teams from around the world in the Global Student Challenge 2020 organised by The Chartered Institute of Building in the UK, the world’s largest professional body for construction management and leadership.
Launched in 2014, the Global Student Challenge is an annual competition which provides students studying for built environment related programmes with an opportunity to apply what they have learned to a real-world scenario of running their own virtual construction company.
The four PolyU SPEED students, who formed a virtual construction company named “Skywalker Construction”, competed with the other five finalist teams virtually during a week of competition. The team shared on the competition website that the Global Student Challenge was an excellent platform for them to have a taste of running and managing a construction company. They also had the opportunity to practise how to estimate the costs of various jobs and better allocate their resources to maximise the performance of their virtual company.
