21 Feb 2025
On 21 February 2025, the Division of Languages and Communication of PolyU CPCE hosted a Discovery in History and Cultural Talk: Knowledge, Society and Future, exploring the theme “China and the West: When Chinese Characters Meet Western Graphology”. Ms Maria Lam, the first Chinese handwriting analyst accredited by the British Institute of Graphologists, was invited as the event’s guest speaker, attracting a diverse audience of literature, history and philosophy enthusiasts.
During the talk, Ms Lam explored the historical context and cultural impact of the interplay between Chinese characters and Western graphology. Drawing from her expertise in handwriting analysis, Ms Lam provided professional insights that deepened participants’ understanding of the social implications of cultural convergence. To further enrich the experience, the event included a personalised handwriting analysis session, during which participants prepared their own writing samples and engaged in one-on-one interactions with Ms Lam. The talk not only showcased the charm of Sino-Western cultural exchange but also illustrated the wide-ranging applications of graphology in modern society, leaving attendees deeply inspired.
