More than 10 students from PolyU SPEED BSc (Hons) in Applied Sciences (Health Studies) programme had been participating in the Medication Safety Awareness Programme for the Elderly held by the Hong Kong Pharmaceutical Care Foundation (PCF) since September 2015, which is funded by the Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) Charities Trust. The Programme aims to equip elderly people and their carers with necessary drug knowledge and improve their awareness of medication safety.

Students from PolyU SPEED and other universities serve as ambassadors and promote the Programme in the community. PolyU SPEED students had the opportunity to apply what they learnt in class to create slogans and promotion materials for the Programme, which was adopted by the event committee.

Dr Ko Wing-man, Secretary for Food and Health, representatives from HKJC and Hong Kong Pharmaceutical Care Foundation officiated at the opening ceremony of the programme held on 30 January 2016 at Shatin New Town Plaza. Both Dr Ko and HKJC representatives praised the excellent performance of students and appreciated them for their kindness in serving the community.

The event helped PolyU SPEED students to gain more field exposure related to healthcare studies and further enhance their social responsibility to serve the community. PolyU SPEED is planning to engage more students from other disciplines to join this meaningful Programme in the near future in order to strengthen their connections with the community.
