The 8th International Logistics Case Competition organised by Hong Kong Logistics Association (HKLA) was held successfully in Tokyo, Japan in July 2017. Two students from PolyU SPEED Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Business (Operations and Supply Chain Management) won three grand awards with their teams, including “Champion Team”, “Best Team in Problem Solving” and “Best Team Work”. This year, the competition attracted tertiary students from five places, namely Beijing, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea and Singapore, to participate.
In this challenging international logistics case competition, participating students visited different corporations and logistics facilities in Japan, such as Tokyo Multipurpose Logistics Center, Kamigumi Co., Ltd., Konoike Transport Co. Ltd., and Korchina Logistics (Japan) Co., Ltd. They were also required to propose practical and innovative logistics solutions to the judging panel and senior management of the relevant corporations.
After the company visits, case discussions and two rounds of case presentations, PolyU SPEED student Cheung Pui Shan, Susanna and her team won two grand awards of “Champion Team” and “Best Team in Problem Solving”.
Susanna thanked the School for arranging her to participate in the competition organised by HKLA. She said that from the competition, she learned how to observe a company carefully, and propose recommendations and solutions to enhance its operations. Also, she learned how to communicate better and co-operate with teammates from different cultures.
Moreover, another PolyU SPEED student Lee Chun Yin, Michael, and his team won the award of “Best Team Work”. Michael expressed that the international logistics case competition enabled him to acquire professional knowledge and establish friendship with tertiary students from other places.
The international logistics case competition enhanced students’ problem-solving, critical thinking and presentation skills. Classroom learning aside, PolyU SPEED strives to help its students gain practical work experience. Through overseas company visits and case presentations, the students broadened their horizons by having professional and cultural exchanges with participating tertiary students, mentors and judges from different regions, and deepened their understanding of international business and logistics operations. These were aimed at improving their employability upon graduation.
