Smart English Ambassador Scheme: Opening Ceremony cum Training 1
15 Apr 2026
The Smart English Ambassador (SEA) Scheme, under PolyU CPCE Student Affairs Office’s English Enhancement Programme, introduced hybrid training this year and offered newly appointed Ambassadors an immersion learning experience enhanced by technology.
The programme commenced with the Opening Ceremony cum Training 1 on 15 April 2026. Dr Franco Wong, Student Activity Coordinator and Senior Lecturer in the Division of Languages and Communication, delivered an online welcome speech emphasising the role of technology in language learning and showcased its application during the photo-taking session.
Guest speaker and trainer Mr Charles Griffith, a native English teacher and part-time Visiting Lecturer at PolyU’s English Language Centre, engaged the 19 new Ambassadors on site in interactive activities designed to strengthen their fluency and confidence in spoken English.
Students joining the SEA Scheme this year are expected to bring enthusiasm for English and dedication to advancing language use through AI. Dr Emily Lui, Project Owner of the Scheme and Lecturer in the Division of Languages and Communication, commended the Ambassadors’ strong performance and shared her excitement about more technology-assisted training and service opportunities ahead. By embedding AI into language learning, the SEA Scheme reinforces its role as a pioneering initiative in English enhancement.
