Professional Recognition

The BSc (Hons) in Building Engineering and Management (Top-up programme) has been professionally accredited by the following leading institutions:

  • The Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB)*
  • The Hong Kong Institute of Construction Managers (HKICM) 
  • The Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE). Graduates are eligible for Scheme “A” Training in the discipline of Building (BUS). For details, please refer to the HKIE website at https://hkie.org.hk/en under “HKIE Qualifications” > “Discipline Matching Results of Accredited Degrees”.

 

* The programme is a CIOB accredited course, having been judged to meet the CIOB Education Framework. Prospective members holding this qualification will have full academic exemption and once they have gained three to five years' relevant work experience, they may enter CIOB membership as an applicant to progress towards Chartered Membership without the requirement for an Individual Assessment. Building on the success and reputation of the well-established top-up programme and the strong demand for the associate degree programme, the School has launched a new 4-year full-time undergraduate programme in building engineering and management.


The application to extend the professional accreditations^ to cover the full 4-year curriculum is currently in progress. 
 
^Accreditation for the 4-year programme is subject to approval by the respective professional institutions.

Career Prospect

  • Graduates are able to pursue a wide range of careers, including Engineering posts in Building, Civil, Construction and Quantity Surveying.

  • The average employment rate of graduates from 2022 to 2023 was 96.5%*, with the average starting salary around HK$28,000 in 2024*.

  • Past graduates have pursued postgraduate studies in famous local universities, such as The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.

Programme Structure

The programme of study consists of 123 credits. All students are also required to complete 176 hours of non-credit-bearing Work-Integrated Education component.

Entrance Requirements

For HKDSE qualification holders:

  • Level 3 in Chinese Language and English Language;
  • Level 2 in Mathematics;
  • “Attained” level in Citizenship and Social Development; and
  • Level 2 or “Attained” level in one elective.

 

For holders of other qualifications:  

  • The equivalents of the above requirements.

 

For those who do not possess the above-mentioned qualifications but have reached the age of 25 before 1 September in the admission year, they may apply as “mature” applicants. They must demonstrate sufficient motivation, knowledge and potential to indicate a high probability of being able to complete the programme successfully.
