About the Funded Research Project
Project Title | Research directions and applications of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in smart tourism in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area (GBA) |
---|---|
Reference Number | UGC/IIDS24/B02/21 |
Duration | 12 months |
Abstract | Tourism is one of the four pillar industries in Hong Kong. Leveraging the strategic location and infrastructures (i.e., the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge and the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail), Hong Kong plays a strategic role as a tourism hub connecting Guangdong and Macau and is determined to take the tourism industry in the Greater Bay area to the next level, Smart Tourism. Addressing the need of strengthening smart tourism in the Greater Bay area, this project aims to host a core research platform and organise a series of seminars, and a 1-day conference to bring about the latest technologies (e.g., Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Big Data) with collaborating local and Greater Bay Area institutions, for accelerating the pace of industrial development, and advanced knowledge of smart tourism to multidiscipline-stakeholders in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area.
This project will provide local academics an advanced understanding of AI in smart tourism both in theory and in practice. It provides a research platform for both academics and researchers to strengthen their research capabilities in the emerging field of AI and smart tourism. The seminars in this project allow industry practitioners to understand opportunities and challenges with experts specializing in AI and smart tourism to gain invaluable insights to improve their practical knowledge. By delivering a series of conference and seminars in the emerging smart tourism field, this project helps to acquire and strengthen the knowledge in the AI in smart tourism domain among local academics and increase their likelihood to become successful researchers in the future. This, in turn, can bring ongoing benefits to the Hong Kong higher education sector. Apart from academics and researchers, students from tourism and hospitality programmes, and industry practitioners are also invited to attend the conference adding values to the higher education and tourism sectors. |
