Chinese Language and Culture Students and Lecturers Participate in Tea Culture Workshop

BA (Hons) in Chinese Language and Culture progeamme of the Division of Languages and Communication held a "Tea Culture Workshop" on 5 October 2022 at the PolyU West Kowloon Campus. Prof. Eliza Liu , Guest Professor Speaker at Jiangxi Wuyuan Tea Academy and an international professional teaist, was invited to demonstrate tea brewing and whisking tea in Song Dynasty style. Twelve lecturers and students participated in the event.
Tea whisking was popular in China in the Song Dynasty and was introduced to Japan. “Chado” (the Japanese tea ceremony) continues to this day, and tea whisking from China is the main component of the tea art. Under Professor Liu's lecture and demonstration, the participants had the honour to taste the tea soup and experience the steps of tea whisking. The event was comprehensive and interesting, allowing the participants to better understand the long history, culture, and skills of tea drinking in China.
