ChatGPT has gone viral since its emergence, but it has also raised concerns about ethics, copyright protection, personal privacy breaches, and academic cheating. However, if used properly, chatbots offer countless benefits, especially in the realms of learning and education.

PolyU SPEED was granted nearly HK$1,480,000 in funding from the 2023/24 Quality Enhancement Support Scheme of the Self-financing Post-secondary Education Fund to launch the project “Improving the Student Learning Experience by Helping Teachers Develop and Utilise Chatbots”.

This project is led by Dr Edmund Wut, Senior Lecturer of the Division of Business and Hospitality Management (BHM) of PolyU CPCE, with Dr Peggy Ng, Principal Lecturer of BHM and Dr Adam Wong, Senior Lecturer of the Division of Science, Engineering and Health Studies serving as coordinators. They aim to help teachers develop and utilise chatbots as teaching assistants to answer students' frequently asked questions anytime and anywhere, thereby improving the students' learning experience.
