In light of the growing significance of Hong Kong as a strategic international hub for innovation and technology in the Greater Bay Area, PolyU SPEED has developed the initiative to augment research and education in Artificial Intelligence (AI). PolyU SPEED’s Centre for Ageing and Healthcare Management Research (CAHMR) is collaborating with its industry sponsor, NVIDIA AI Technology Center (NVAITC), in the proposed interdisciplinary applied research project entitled “Development of a Knowledge Management System for Dementia Care with Deep Learning”. Based in Silicon Valley, NVIDIA is the world’s leading company in AI and deep learning technology, which transforms the landscape in accelerated computing with the introduction of GPUs, and delivers the performance, efficiency, and responsiveness critical to the empowerment of the next wave of AI - in the cloud, in the data center, at the edge, and intelligent machines.

 

Key PolyU SPEED members in this collaboration include academic staff of the BSc (Hons) Scheme in Applied Sciences, which comprises three specialisms: Health Studies, Information Systems & Web Technologies, and Statistics & Data Science.  The Scheme embeds the study of Data Analytics in its design, and is to introduce the study of AI and Deep Learning through collaboration with NVAITC. Supporting research and education in the application of AI in various industries, PolyU SPEED aims to build up the technological competence of its students so that they will be ready for capturing the opportunities available in Hong Kong as a strategic international hub for innovation and technology.
