Background

Global Cold Chain Logistics Market is estimated to reach USD$386 billion by 2024. There is a high demand for the industrial specialist in managing cold chain logistics service.

 

Aims 

  • To develop a comprehensive understanding of the theoretical issues underpinning the management of the supply chains in international business environments.
  • To understand the concepts of digitalization, supply chain innovation as well as “end-to-end solutions” and apply them in a dynamic global business environment.
  • To provide the participants with an understanding of the basic concepts and functions involved in cold storage infrastructure design and establishment, process management of developing cold store, system and layout for different cold chain goods, application of cold store building materials for different specifications, and legal, safety, hygiene requirements of cold store in Hong Kong.

      

      

 

 

Target Students

Participants working in logistics and supply chain management and/or have interest in cold chain logistics and smart supply chain.

 

Intended Learning Outcomes

  1. Formulate the key concepts, principles and practices of the smart supply chain management and complexities involved in a global setting
  2. Address the organizational and managerial aspects of cold chain logistics in a complex and dynamic environment
  3. Apply relevant contract management skills and providing solutions for contractual issues and disputes in supply chain

Module Three: Supply Chain Innovations and technologies 

  1. Global trends of innovation and application of ICT to logistics
  2. Recent innovations on global logistics operations
  3. E-SCM on supplier management and supplier fulfillment management
  4. Big Data application
  5. Blockchain and data management

Module Four: Current Issues for Cold Chain Logistics 

  1. Purchasing and procurement of temperature-controlled products

  3. Storage and packaging issues of temperature-controlled products

  5. Regulatory framework of food safety in Hong Kong and China

Module Five: Quality Assurance/Standard in Cold Chain 

  1. Quality Assurance Standards in Cold Chain (Equivalent to BSI ISO23412:2020 Implementation Training) 
  2. Transportation of chilled or frozen parcels in temperature-controlled land transportation vehicles via geographical routing systems
  3. Requirements for resources, equipment, operations and communications to delivery service users
  4. Considering implementation perspective
  5. Specific documented information requirements

Module Six: Smart Logistics and Digitalization 

  1. Automated smart warehousing
  2. Artificial intelligence (AI) and Robotics

Teaching and Learning Methods

A mix of lectures and workshop sessions is used to deliver the various topics. Lectures are conducted to initiate students with the concepts and practices of smart supply chain management and cold chain practices. Workshops will include case studies and real-life examples of related topic areas as well as current development & trends.

CEF Reimbursement

Applicants who are eligible to apply for the Continuing Education Fund (CEF) can receive a maximum subsidy of $10,180 from the Continuing Education Fund.  Students only need to pay $2,620 (The actual subsidy amount depends on the balance of the individual fund. Applicants can use the tool "Calculator" from "Working Families and Student Financial Assistance Agency" to estimates the amount of funding.)

Entry Requirements

Applicants should satisfy the requirements stated in (i) and (ii):

  1. Satisfactory completion of a recognised diploma programme in business related discipline at QF Level 4 or equivalent;
  2. At least 2 years of working experience in business, procurement or logistics related sectors.                         

Applicants who do not possess the above entry requirements will be considered on a case-by-case basis. These applicants are required to attend an admission interview.

Professional Recognition

Students who have successfully completed the course are eligible to apply for:

i) Associate Membership of The Institute of Purchasing & Supply of Hong Kong (IPSHK);

ii) Certificate of Attendance on ISO23412:2020 Implementation Training by BSI

Certification

A Professional Certificate will be awarded by PolyU SPEED upon successful completion of the course with at least 70% attenance. 

Application Procedures

Submission of Application

 

1.  Application form can be downloaded from this website.  Before completing the application form, please read carefully the "Guide for Applicants" on the form.

 

2.  Please submit one application form and settle the course fee by bank draft/ crossed cheque/ On-line Card Payment System for each course applied. For details of payment methods, please refer to Section 4 of the application form or this web page.

 

3.  Non-permanent residents of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) holding

(i) work visa/ entry permit; OR

(ii) visa/ entry permit under the Immigration Arrangements for Non-local Graduates (IANG) (except those from Mainland, Macao and Taiwan); OR

(iii) dependent visa/ entry permit (except those from Mainland, Macao and Taiwan), issued by the Director of Immigration of HKSAR Government may enroll in short-term courses in SPEED without seeking prior approval from the Director of Immigration.

 

These applicants are required to attach a copy of their identity document(s) and the valid visa/ entry permit to their application.  On admission, they will be required to provide the original identity document(s) and visa/ entry permit for verification. Throughout the course of study, it is the responsibility of individual students to ensure that their identity documents and visas/ entry permits are valid. Other non-local applicants can neither be registered as students nor commence their studies on the short-term courses in SPEED.

 

4.  Applications should be submitted on or before the deadline for application via one of the following means -

(a) By post:
Submit the completed application form, supporting documents (if applicable) and a copy of your valid visa/ entry permit (if applicable) together with the bank draft/ crossed cheque/ payment confirmation page (for online payment) to School of Professional Education and Executive Development, Room 1201, 12/F, PolyU Hung Hom Bay Campus, 8 Hung Lok Road, Hung Hom, Kowloon.

 

(b) By e-mail (for application with payment settled via online system only):

5.  Applicants will be notified of their application results via email by the School after the application is closed.  Please contact the School if you do not receive any notification 1 week before course commencement.  For unsuccessful applications, course fees paid will be refunded to the applicants.

(2)  On-line Card Payment System (by FPS/ Visa/ Master/ China UnionPay card)
You could settle the course fee via On-line Card Payment System by FPS/ Visa/ Master/ China UnionPay card.  For successful payment, please print the payment confirmation page for record and quote the invoice number (as shown on the payment confirmation page) on Section 4 of the application form.  No separate hardcopy of payment receipt will be issued for you.

 

According to the School's Refund Policy, course fees paid are normally not refundable, except cases of unsuccessful applications/ course cancellation.  Fees paid and places allocated are not transferrable.
