Programme Features
With the aim of nurturing culturally sensitive communicators, the programme emphasises the development of students’ practical language knowledge and skills, particularly in English and Chinese (Putonghua and Cantonese), as well as their cultural intelligence. While cross-cultural contexts provide a framework for understanding “why” people communicate differently, bilingual studies provide specific tools to “execute” that communication effectively.
A cross-cultural approach to bilingual studies offers significant benefits beyond language proficiency. It develops students’ cultural awareness and adaptability, and it strengthens their cognitive skills, such as problem-solving and mental flexibility. By learning to navigate and appreciate diverse perspectives, students are better positioned to remain competitive in today’s rapidly changing global environment.
