Course Information
Aims
This course provides skills and knowledge related to the effective management of people and organizations. It aims at two different types of managers.
First, it provides a general management education for those with the responsibility for managing people and organizations, with subjects covering organizational behaviour, strategic management, international business, leadership, and negotiation and conflict management.
Second, with an appropriate choice ofindividual research topics, such as human resource development, pay and benefits, and it provides a thorough professional training for those seeking specialist careers in human resource management.
Intended Learning Outcomes
Upon satisfactory completion of the course, students are expected to be able to:
- Apply the key principles of people management in problem solving situations.
- Possess in-depth knowledge and skills in their area of study andbe able to apply their knowledge and contribute to professional human resources business partner.
- Adopt a critical perspective on theory and research, and support the application of learning to students’ work environments.
- Utilise a variety of theoretical and research approaches in order to systematicallyand creatively deal with complex issues in the study and/or practice of HRM.Recommend concerning arrangements for the organisation and delivery of people management services, including ways of assessing the contribution of people management to organisational success.

Organisation Development and Human Resource Strategy (^UoC106918L6)
- Understand the market and industry in which the business operates and how they impact the development of the organizations vision, mission and value
- Formulating appropriate HR strategies to develop its workforce and practices required to meet the organization’s VMV, directions and strategies
- Understand the new behavioral expectations which will contribute to the new strategy, direction or transformation of the organization
- Develop specific and measureable improvement plan to close the gap between VMV and behavioral expectation
Workforce Planning and Resourcing (^UoC106930L6)
- Understand the impact of all internal, external, historical and future factors which impact the organization’s long-term workforce planning and strateg
- Devise a mechanism for long-term workforce forecasting with due consideration of all developments and changes within and outside the organisation
- Explore new and innovative resourcing strategies and solutions in meeting diversified business requirements
Reward Management (^UoC106967L6)
- Determine criteria to evaluate the competitiveness and effectiveness of each component of reward system (e.g. financial impact and costs, employee turnover, stakeholders’ views)
- Evaluate market data related to reward system from different sources
- Solicit input from stakeholders on the existing reward system for continuous improvement
Talent Management(^UoC106993L6)
- Understand the importance of linking the organization’s talent management and development policies with its strategic direction
- Determine objectives of talent management and development in the organization in order to formulate effective policies which are based on the organization’s strategic direction
- Design relevant measurable parameters for evaluating effectiveness of the development activities for the potential successors
Human Resource Policies and Processes (^UoC107025L6)
- Understand the latest models of HR service delivery in the market
- Design workflows to maximize effectiveness of HR operations and services
- Review different aspects of structure, processes and responsibilities of HR operations and services
Compliance and Risk Management(^UoC107070L6)
- Understand the trends and market practices of managing industrial relations in respective operating markets and jurisdictions
- Design guidelines for effective communication with employee representatives as major stakeholders in industrial relations
- Design strategies, principles and policies to build and maintain healthy industrial relations with high employee morale and business continuity
Employee Engagement (^UoC107096L6)
- Understand the importance and different methodologies of stakeholder management in order engage major stakeholders effectively
- Design appropriate means or activities solicit employees’ views and evaluate the effectiveness of the employee engagement initiatives
- Apply the periodic review and alignment of employee engagement initiatives with the organisation’s culture and core values, with the involvement of major stakeholders

Entry Requirements
The applicants should
(a) hold a bachelor’s degree in areas of Sciences, Humanities, Social Sciences, IT or Business, or equivalent, awarded by a recognized institution;
OR
(b) (i) hold an Associate Degree or Higher Diploma awarded by a recognized institution in the same areas listed in (a); AND
(ii) have at least 4 years of recognized professional experience;
OR
(c) aged 27 or above, with other post-secondary qualifications and at least 6 years of work experience in industry, commerce or public administration, including 3 years in a managerial capacity, will also be considered.
Applicants do not possess the above entry requirements will be considered on case by case basis. These applicants are required to attend an admission interview for better understanding of their goals and experiences.
Certification
Students who have passed and completed the assessments, and attended at least 70% of the course will be presented with a Professional Certificate awarded by PolyU SPEED.

2. Please submit one application form and settle the course fee by bank draft/ crossed cheque/ On-line Card Payment System for each course applied. For details of payment methods, please refer to Section 4 of the application form or this web page.
3. Non-permanent residents of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) holding
(i) work visa/ entry permit; OR
(ii) visa/ entry permit under the Immigration Arrangements for Non-local Graduates (IANG) (except those from Mainland, Macao and Taiwan); OR
(iii) dependent visa/ entry permit (except those from Mainland, Macao and Taiwan), issued by the Director of Immigration of HKSAR Government may enroll in short-term courses in SPEED without seeking prior approval from the Director of Immigration.
These applicants are required to attach a copy of their identity document(s) and the valid visa/ entry permit to their application. On admission, they will be required to provide the original identity document(s) and visa/ entry permit for verification. Throughout the course of study, it is the responsibility of individual students to ensure that their identity documents and visas/ entry permits are valid. Other non-local applicants can neither be registered as students nor commence their studies on the short-term courses in SPEED.

Payment Methods for Course Fee
Please choose either one of the following payment methods for course fee:
(1) Bank Draft/ Crossed Cheque
You could submit a bank draft/ crossed cheque (made payable to "The Hong Kong Polytechnic University")by post or by hand. Please write your name, the course code and class code at the back of the bank draft/ crossed cheque. Post-dated cheque will not be accepted.
(2) On-line Card Payment System (by Visa/ Master/ FPS/ China UnionPay card)
You could settle the course fee via On-line Card Payment System by Visa/ Master/ FPS/ China UnionPay card. For successful payment, please print the payment confirmation page for record and quote the invoice number (as shown on the payment confirmation page) on Section 4 of the application form. No separate hardcopy of the payment receipt will be issued for you.
According to the School's Refund Policy, course fees paid are normally not refundable, except cases of unsuccessful applications/ course cancellation. Fees paid and places allocated are not transferrable.
