Course Information
Aims
The course aims at developing the qualified mediation professionals to provide high quality international and cross-border mediation services in Hong Kong, the Mainland and overseas. In supporting Hong Kong’s roles as the international legal and dispute resolution center, the course will equip participants with consolidated knowledge on the Advanced Hong Kong International Dispute and Risk Management Platform, including the dispute prevention, dispute resolution, negotiation and international enforcement procedures. Graduates will be well prepared to sit for the international recognized professional mediator qualifying examination organized by the IDRRMI. Participants will also learn the application of advance mediation mindset, strategies and skills to enhance their efficiency in work and lives, as well as connecting with other people.
The 45-hour (including a 3-hour examination), 5-day Course will be conducted in Cantonese supplemented with English, and consisted of multiple role-play sessions for participants to gain hands-on experience. The mediation role-play sessions at the Course will be coached by experienced mediators and renowned mediation trainers. The optimum ratio of a Trainer/Coach to participants is 1:4. The value of this Course weight on having international mediation experts and trainers share their extensive experience with the participants, consistency in the learning experience by practicing with the knowledge and skill immediately after learning them.
At the end of this Course, participants are required to take part in the course-end assessment (Group Project and Written Examination) in order to complete the course.
Intended Learning Outcomes
Upon satisfactory completion of the course, students are expected to be able to:
- Prepare for acquiring a professional mediation qualification (International Accredited Mediator of IDRRMI and APCAM)
- Develop life skills (presentation, logical thinking) self-advancement (improve coordination and emotional)
- Master the skills to communicate and connect with parties
- Master the problem-solving skills, coordination skills and expecting management skills to assist parties to resolve their disputes in mediation
- Master the thinking process, decision making process and negotiation process to attribute to enhance overall work-efficiency
Professional Recognition
Students who successfully complete the" Professional Certificate in International Professional Mediator Training" will be the associate member of International Dispute Resolution & Risk Management Institute ("IDRRMI") and eligible to apply for Stage II of the International Professional Mediator qualifying examination organized by IDRRMI. Candidates who successfully pass the assessment can apply to become the International Accredited Professional Mediator of IDRRMI.
The assessment fee of HK$10,500 will be fully borne by the graduates. (Graduates will apply directly to IDRRMI)

Eligible applicants for the Continuing Education Fund (CEF) can receive a maximum reimbursement of $17,500.

Entry Requirements
The applicants should
(a) hold a bachelor’s Degree or above, awarded by an institution with at least 3 years’ working experience;
OR
(b) hold a Diploma with at least 8 years’ working experience
Applicants do not possess the above entry requirements will be considered on case by case basis. These applicants may be required to attend an admission interview to ascertain that their goals and experiences are matched with the course objectives.
Certification
Students who have passed and completed the assessments (Group Project and Written examination), and attended at least 80% of the course will be presented with a Professional Certificate awarded by PolyU SPEED.
Application Procedures

2. Please submit one application form and settle the course fee by bank draft/ crossed cheque/ On-line Card Payment System for each course applied. For details of payment methods, please refer to Section 4 of the application form or this web page.
3. Non-permanent residents of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) holding
(i) work visa/ entry permit; OR
(ii) visa/ entry permit under the Immigration Arrangements for Non-local Graduates (IANG) (except those from Mainland, Macao and Taiwan); OR
(iii) dependent visa/ entry permit (except those from Mainland, Macao and Taiwan), issued by the Director of Immigration of HKSAR Government may enroll in short-term courses in SPEED without seeking prior approval from the Director of Immigration.
These applicants are required to attach a copy of their identity document(s) and the valid visa/ entry permit to their application. On admission, they will be required to provide the original identity document(s) and visa/ entry permit for verification. Throughout the course of study, it is the responsibility of individual students to ensure that their identity documents and visas/ entry permits are valid. Other non-local applicants can neither be registered as students nor commence their studies on the short-term courses in SPEED.

5.The school will notify applicants of the application results via email after the course registration deadline. If an applicant has not received any notification one week before the course commencement, they should proactively contact the academy for further inquiries.
Payment Methods for Course Fee
Please choose either one of the following payment methods for course fee:
(1) Bank Draft/ Crossed Cheque
You could submit a bank draft/ crossed cheque (made payable to "The Hong Kong Polytechnic University")by post. Please write your name, the course code and class code at the back of the bank draft/ crossed cheque. Post-dated cheque will not be accepted.
(2) On-line Card Payment System (by Visa/ Master/ FPS/ China UnionPay card)
You could settle the course fee via On-line Card Payment System by Visa/ Master/ FPS/ China UnionPay card. For successful payment, please print the payment confirmation page for record and quote the invoice number (as shown on the payment confirmation page) on Section 4 of the application form. No separate hardcopy of the payment receipt will be issued for you.
According to the School's Refund Policy, course fees paid are normally not refundable, except cases of unsuccessful applications/ course cancellation. Fees paid and places allocated are not transferrable.
